Well, This Is It!!!

Yes, this is it. I am 50 years old today. I've had a great day though. I got in to work at about 8am and as I got out of the car I was greeted with "happy birthday" from one of the Medical Secretaries. Then I approached the entrance to the hospital and saw a poster "Ifor Sheldon is 50 today". I opened the door to be greeted with helium filled balloons with "Happy 50th Birthday" on them. I entered my office to find more balloons, cards and pressies on my desk. Solid (as my kids might say)!

As the day wore on, it was clear that someone had posted posters all over the hospital and loads and loads of people wished me happy birthday. I received some e-mails as well, and I was especially pleased to receive the one from JS. She came to the office later and wished me happy birthday later as well. "Solid"!!!

Anyway, I gave Lesley and Ann £20 and they went off to get some cream cakes for me. These two are special people and deserve special mention. They have some members of staff who are completely out of order at the moment and I intend to ensure they are dealt with appropriately as soon as possible!

After ensuring everyone had a cake to eat, at 11:20 there was a knock at the door and the Catering Staff entered along with a massive cake with 50 on it ( along with some Anne Summers boobs as well!). I cut the cake and it was distributed etc etc. I must make special mention to Ann Forey who cooked the cake and Francisco who iced it. I have got some really special people working for me and I want everyone to know it!

Have a look at the cake:

And this is me with my pressies and card etc etc ........

Oh well, had a few beers with my boss Wayne and my girls and now I'm off to watch Liverpool beat them eyeties (hopefully).

Paul Walter

I see from David Rendell's website that Paul Walter received the Jack Donovan award for his outstanding contribution to Liberal Democracy in December last year. I can tell you that this guy deserves to have this award again! Despite not being elected this time over, he still did more work than anyone else, and all of us in Victoria Ward look to him as one of our mentors - top bloke!!!

Fire, Fire

We had a fire at the hospital last Wednesday week. The first one we have ever had since it opened in March 2004.

The really galling thing about this event was that it occured in my Linen Room! It was discovered by my Night Porter who brilliantly put it out - thank heavens. Since then I have had the NHS risk and fire people over, the Fire and Rescue Service twice and I have had to report findings to our company helpdesk in York twice.

Latest is that they cannot decided how it was caused. Another stressful week coming up then!

Crikey, Lots Have Happened Since ........

Yes, lots has happened since my last post. I got in as a councillor - only just though as I had the "Donkey Vote", so David Rendell told me anyway! My name was last on the ballot paper so I got less votes than everyone else that also got in - well that's my story, AND I AM STICKING TO IT, OK!?!

We had to go to the annual Mayor Making at the Corn Exchange where we had to sit on the stage in front of all the Newbury "Notories" and then to the parish church of St Nicholas for a service followed by grub supplied by the British Legion ladies (and very good it was I can tell you!).

These couple of photos demonstrate how committed I must be to be a councillor. I mean, I didn't realise I had to dress up like Napolean and parade in front of the public!

Joke?

My youngest daughter e-mailed me this joke. She has been suitably reprimanded and sent to bed!!!

Part I
Everybody who has a dog calls it "Rover" or "Boy"; I called mine "Sex". Now Sex has been very embarrassing to me. When I went to the city hall to renew his license, I told the clerk I wanted to have a license for Sex. He said "I'd like to have one too." Then I said "But this is a dog". He said he didn't care want she looked like. Then I said, "You don't understand, I've had Sex since I was 9 years old." He said I must have been quite a kid.

Then when I got married and went on my honeymoon, I took the dog with me. I told the hotel clerk I wanted a room for my wife and me and a special room for Sex. He said every room in the hotel was for sex. I said "You don't understand, Sex keeps me awake at nights." He said "Me too."

Part II
One day I entered Sex in a contest, but before before the competition began the dog ran away. Another contestant asked me why I was hanging around. I told him that I planned to have Sex in the contest. He told me I should have sold tickets of my own. "But you don't understand," I said, "I hope to have sex on TV." He called me a show-off.

When my wife and me separated, we went to court to fight over the custody rights of the dog. I said "Your honor, I had Sex before we were married." The judge said "me too." Then I told him that after I married Sex left me. The judge said "Me too."

Last night Sex ran off again. I spent hours looking for him around town. A cop came over and asked me, "What are you doing in this dark alley at 4 in the morning?" I said "I'm looking for sex." My case comes up on Friday.

Really Nice People

These two lovely people signing our petition to remove the buses from Northbrook Street.

Thank You

I would like to thank all those that voted for me at the election on Thursday. I promise to do my best, for you, for all those that misguidingly voted for other candidates and for those who decided for one reason or another not to vote.

Thank Goodness That's Over!

It's over! The election has come and gone. All the hard work has been worth it - at least for my Ward. I have been elected to serve on Newbury Town Council for the next 4 years.

Mind you, I think I am entering the political arena on a down turn in the fortunes of the Lib Dems and an upturn in those bloody Tories. You should have seen them at the count. They were in their element, strutting around like a load of hooray henry's. However, I have to say that not all the Tories were like that. One of the beaten candidates in my Ward turned out to be a really nice guy. I am going to make sure I keep in contact with him. I also had a great chat with the UKIP candidate for the District election and he is someone I respect.
